St Patrick's Athletic Committee Angel Scholarship

The St. Patrick’s Athletic Committee Angel Scholarship is a $1000 educational award given yearly to an 8th grade boy and girl athlete who best exemplifies the leadership, scholarship, sportsmanship, character and athletic effort valued by the St. Patrick’s Athletic Committee (SPAC). This award will be paid directly to the Catholic High School of their choice at the start of their freshman year. The application on the following pages is designed to provide information to the SPAC Angel Scholarship Committee for purposes of awarding this scholarship. All required materials must be received by the SPAC Angel Scholarship Committee by the published deadline. All information will be used exclusively by the SPAC Angel Scholarship Committee and will be destroyed after use. The Angel Scholarship winner is typically announced at the annual Sports Banquet.

2022 Angel Scholarship Winners

Criteria for Selection:

  1. Candidates must have participated in a St. Patrick’s sponsored sport in each of their 6th, 7th and 8th grade years.
  2. Candidates must attend a Catholic High School to receive their award.
  3. Candidates must have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in the 7th grade and first semester 8th grade.
  4. Candidates must have the support of at least one of their youth coaches.
  5. Candidates must complete the scholarship application and essay.
  6. No other verbal or written information or recommendations will be considered.
  7. All application materials must be received by April 31, 2023.

Application Requirements:

  1. Meet all the criteria for selection as listed previously.
  2. Provide a copy of the candidate’s second semester 7th grade and first semester 8th grade transcript or records cards confirming at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  3. A written letter of recommendation from any of the candidate’s youth coaches advising as to why the candidate is deserving of the committees recognition. Please indicate the nominee’s potential, both academically and socially, to succeed in his/her pursuits, and the leadership qualities exhibited.
  4. Submit a typed essay addressing their desire to attend or continue at a Catholic High School. The student is to write an essay of 500 words or less describing the following:
    • Why he/she thinks he/she deserves to be a recipient of the scholarship;
    • What a scholarship to a Catholic High School in the Archdiocese of Omaha would mean to him/her and his/her family;
    • How will a Catholic High School education help him/her now and in the future better serve his/her church and community?
  5. Provide typed responses to the following statements/questions on a separate sheet(s) of paper:
    • What talents do you possess and how would you use them to make an impact in regards
      to the values of the Catholic High School you wish to attend?
    • Explain an obstacle you have encountered in your sports career, how you overcame it and the lesson learned.
    • What past and present activities give evidence of Catholic leadership and pastoral
      participation in a parish, community and/or academic setting?
    • What has your Catholic education taught you and how do you plan to demonstrate it in high school?
    • What is a lesson you have learned from an extracurricular activity?
    • What three words best describe you and why?
